Greetings! It seemed appropriate that I began drafting this message to you on the first official day of Summer! When I think of summer, I think of hot dogs, baseball, kids out of school, fireworks and family vacations! This year, it also signifies to me that the ICA Annual Education Conference in San Diego is just a few short months from now.
In case you missed it, registration for the conference is now open! The Annual Conference Team and ICA Headquarters worked diligently to have the registration available ahead of schedule this year so please take advantage of the extra lead time to secure your early bird registration rate and your ICA group discount rate on the hotel.
Speaking of the conference, we asked for your feedback and want you to know that we heard you! This year, we have increased the number of sessions offered with a special emphasis on roundtables. We understand that the roundtable format provides many of you with the opportunity to freely exchange ideas and ask questions. New to the program this year is a Committee Fair that will be held on Monday afternoon of the conference from 3:30-4:30. The Fair will provide a forum to learn more about the work of the ICA committees, meet current committee members and find out how you can become more involved. Additionally, we will be offering a Newcomer Navigator program to help new attendees learn the ropes of the ICA. New attendees can indicate their interest by signing up during registration. The program will pair the new attendee with a meeting navigator who will reach out in advance to answer any questions the attendee may have!
Outside of the educational sessions, there will be a number of opportunities for you to network with your friends and colleagues. We have a fun event planned on the hotel lawn Sunday evening to kick off the conference following the cocktail reception in the exhibitor hall. It will be Eighties themed so don’t forget to pack your boogie shoes and spandex! Or perhaps you can sport your vintage leg warmers or scrunchies! I am also excited to share with you that we will be holding the Tuesday night closing reception off-site at the San Diego Maritime Museum. Shuttle buses will be provided to and from the hotel. The museum contains a number of historical vessels, including the Star of India and inactive war time submarines, all of which will be available to tour at your leisure. We encourage you to wear nautical or patriotic attire and comfortable shoes!
There are many other activities underway by our committees as well. The Education Committee is busy with an initiative to update the C4 management course and textbook to include more current management practices such as virtual management, remote employee management and co -sourcing. The committee is also coordinating an effort with the other product committees to develop a Claims 101 guide principally to provide a resource material for those new to the insurance industry but one that can certainly be used by all. Both the Marketing and the Membership Committees have been hard at work with idea generation to sustain and grow our membership as well as build the ICA’s brand.
These are exciting times for the ICA. I see nothing but a bright future ahead for the organization! The support of our exhibitors and sponsors cannot be underscored nor can the dedication and volunteerism of our many committee members.
Until my next opportunity to share my remarks, I wish all of you the very best over the summer months!
